Master Naturalist Guide; Expedition Guide 

Hernan brings the experience of one of the pioneers in Natural History tours in Panama. He comes from a family of explorers and field scientists as the son of Reina Torres de Arauz, Panama´s leading anthropologist and Amado Arauz, legendary explorer of the Darien. Hernan is a veteran of many Trans Darien Expeditions, including the first one ever with ecotourists and the first one transmitted over the Internet, over 350 tours to Barro Colorado Nature Monument and extensive experience in all of Panama´s life zones. An avid birder and naturalist with a Panama birdlist closing on 750 species, he has designed and led specialized natural history programs for the largest tour operators in the US. He knows the secret to great guiding is to transmit both knowledge and enthusiasm with high intensity every time.

Richard Drake Cahill
Naturalist Guide; Expedition Guide

Rich comes to Ancon Expeditions of Panama as one of the most experienced guides and tour conductors in the panamanian ecotourism industry. Born in Panama City to American parents; his mother is a direct descendant of Sir Francis Drake, whose lead coffin lies not far from where Rich learned how to dive. An experienced guide, Richard is one of the leading guides for expedition ships that tour Panama His good work has rewarded him training in the Galapagos Islands. He has been leading tours for 10 years in all the regions of Panama. He is a veteran of four Trans Darien Expeditions, over 250 tours to Barro Colorado Nature Monument and countless other adventures in the rainforests of the Isthmus. Guests outing with Rich are always happy campers.

Rick Morales
Naturalist Guide

The most recent acquisition of the Ancon Expeditions of Panama Guide core. Rick was born in the Chiriqui highlands. A naturalist and avid birder, he has compiled an impresive bird list and a long list of his experiences and adventures as an Ancon Expeditions of Panama Naturalist Guide. Rick has experience in all of Panama's life zones and is under current intensive training to bring him to the level of Expedition Guide. He speaks flawless English and is always enthusiastic about putting on fatigues and heading for the forest with our clients.

Mario Bernal
Naturalist Guide

Mario was born in El Valle de Anton, in central Panama, on the foothills of a dormant volcano. A naturalist by heart, he has spent his life studying flora and fauna of Panama. He worked many years for the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, most of the time at Barro Colorado Island. He is currently dedicated to guide nature-oriented tours throughout Panama and leads an environmental organization called "ConserVA", dedicated to create awareness about the need to protect the ecosystems of his native region. His enthusiasm and for Panama's natural heritage is contagious.

Ivan Hoyos
Naturalist Guide; Expedition Guide

A graduate of the University of Maryland--Munich and European Division, he speaks fluent German as well as English. A veteran of 100+ tours to Barro Colorado Nature Monument, 2 Trans Darien Expeditions, one Darien Explorer Trek and countless adventures in Panama's wilderness, Ivan is an avid birder always looking for new life birds to add to his list. An expert mountain biker with plenty of experience in the logistics of tour handling. Without a doubt one of the best new faces in nature guiding in Panama.
